How We Are Governed
Our name (if you know its roots) says it: Presbyterian churches are governed by elders. That is, our name, “Presbyterian,” comes from the New Testament Greek word for elder. These elders and the pastors comprise the Session, which makes the governing decisions for our church.
Elders serve to lead our church. They set the overall direction for St. Giles, and lead such ministries as Evangelism, Local and Global Mission, New Church Development, Life Groups, Spirit Empowered Ministries, and Worship. They are comprised of ten Elders and Pastor Josh Modrzynski.
Each year St. Giles’ congregation elects three elders, who are then trained by the pastor and examined by the Session for their three-year term of service. They must affirm the Essential Tenets of the ECO in order to qualify for service. The elders meet monthly for fellowship, instruction, prayer, and to seek God’s guidance for our church. They also join in leading the various ministries of St. Giles, and offer care for those in our church. The elders welcome your prayers! And if you’d like to know more about how our elders do their work, give one of the pastors a call.
