Encountering JesusWe live out the mission of encountering Jesus through these six Mission Initiatives.
As a community of disciples of Jesus, we study and declare the truths of the Gospel as revealed in the Bible.
Our core identity: we are growing as disciples of Jesus. We want to help others grow as disciples of Jesus as well. We do this by shaping our minds and hearts around the teachings and practices of Jesus as presented in Scripture, so as to know Him better.
We invite a relationship with Jesus through the beauty and gifts of art and music.
One of the long-standing anointings of St. Giles is the capacity to use art and music to declare the beauty of God. Whether it’s simply through the beauty of our sanctuary, the intentional rebuilding of our organ, the recent commitment to youth drama, the Make Creative Studio and the gallery in Common Grounds, worship gatherings, the Community Choir, the concert series, or the many artistically minded St. Gileans: the Lord has given us the responsibility of using this “talent” of art and beauty.
We nurture a multigenerational community so as to become a connected family of Jesus.
The family of Christ is at its best when we minister across generations. As a church, we are committed to growing across all generations as a community of Jesus by considering and prioritizing our decisions through the lens of how they will impact younger people in and beyond our church.
We cultivate and encourage a multiethnic community of faith that encounters Jesus together.
As a church that draws from the metro Richmond area, we want to reflect the diversity of our community. As our city grows in diversity, we want to become a church of all nations that represents the ethnic realities of our city.
We steward the presence of the Holy Spirit as we encounter Jesus through healing.
In the context of worship, evangelism, and discipleship, we want individuals to experience Christ-centered spiritual, emotional, physical, and relational healing.
We serve and love our neighbors locally and globally so that others may encounter Jesus.
We want to be relationally connected with other like-minded Christians in the city and assist in God’s mission through local mission entities. We want to partner with those whose reach is greater than ours and be in close relationships with select global communities to further the impact of the Gospel. Our current international commitments are in Kazakhstan, Egypt, and Uganda.
