What do Small Groups at St. Giles look like?
Small groups are an intentional gathering of usually 3-12 people who meet for a contracted period of time to emphasize usually some measure of the following components: the study and discussion of God's Word, fellowship, prayer, and service.
What are the by-products of such gatherings?
St. Giles small groups are planned to give people an opportunity to experience a sense of belonging and acceptance in the midst of an increasingly anonymous world. It is a strategic way for people to draw closer to God and to one another, to be encouraged in their giftedness, and to gain clarity in an area of service.
What groups does St. Giles have?
St. Giles has a diversity of groups; the following are open for newcomers:
- "Alpha" - Exploring the meaning of the Christian faith - Tuesday evenings at home of Tom and Judy Roberts.
- Home Bible Study - Study of Old Testament characters - Sunday evenings with Ross and Betty Anderson.
Men's Fellowship
- At St. Giles on Friday mornings; 6:45 AM, facilitated by Dave Snead
Women's Groups
Tuesday Mornings:
We gather in the Reception Room for fellowship and coffee at 9:30, followed by a time of prayer and praise at 10:00 before we break into our study groups:
- Embracing Soul Care by Stephen Smith
This is a 14-week study focusing on developing a deeper and more authentic relationship with Jesus Christ through study and practical application in Spiritual Disciplines (lectio divina, fasting, and solitude). In relational conversations we learn through the acronym of SALVE (Safety, Acceptance, Vulnerability, and Exploration). We learn that there is unity in diversity, comfort with the unfamiliar, and how to keep our souls in alignment with our savior. We’ll end on April 29th with a discussion and the movie, Everything Is Spiritual by Rob Bell.
This book of the Bible teaches us much about love and devotion. It also teaches us of God’s concern for our everyday needs and that he is working out his plan for salvation. It may have been written during the reign of David, whose ancestry is traced in the final verses to his great grandfather Boaz, whose wife was Ruth.
For more information on these studies contact Bev Walters or Annette Irving.
